Smith and Haddin rescue Aussies: 5th Test, Day 1 (SCG)

A Steve Smith century and Brad Haddin counter-attack have put Australia back on an even keel. Australia sent in on a greenish pitch by Cook were 97-5 just after lunch. Haddin (75 off 90 balls) departed just after tea with the ship steadied to 6 for 225. Smith eventually secured an excellent century before falling for 115. England 1 for 8 (Cook 7*, Anderson 1*) trail Australia 326 (Smith 115, Haddin 75, Stokes 6-99) by 318 runs. Jan 2014
