Mendis special stuns Aussies: 1st Test, Day 3 (Kandy)

21 year old Kusal Mendis smashed his maiden century to rescue Sri Lanka and get them to a winning position. Mendis got to his century in just 143 balls and was unbeaten on 169 at the close.

No other player has scored even a fifty in this Test. In the 139 years since Charles Bannerman's 165 in the very first Test in 1877, no player has scored a higher percentage (67.34 per cent) of a team’s runs in a completed innings than Mendis.

Sri Lanka 117 and 282 for 6 (Mendis 169*) lead Australia 203 by 196 runs.
