Bairstow holds England together: 3rd Test, Day 1 (Mohali)

Jonny Bairstow struck 89 as England closed on 268-8 but India remained in charge after the opening day.

England were reduced to 87-4 before Bairstow was involved in partnerships of 69 with the recalled Jos Buttler (43) and 57 with Ben Stokes to take England to safety until 2 late wickets soured their day.

Yadav, Jadeja and Ashwin bowled well but 4 missed chances let England off the hook.

England 268 for 8 (Bairstow 89, Rashid 4*, Batty 0*) v India.
