Windies saved by protest after Chandimal fires up: 2nd Test (St Lucia)

Sri Lanka will rue the two hours they had spent off the field, protesting the ball-tampering charge as Kraigg Brathwaite (59 not out) guided the Windies to safety.

25 overs of play were lost to the protest with the Windies clinging on at 147-5 before rain and bad light stopped play.

Earlier, Dinesh Chandimal‘s unbeaten hundred defied a West Indies attack spearheaded by Shannon Gabriel (5-59 and 8-62) as Sri Lanka were lifted by their captain to a first innings total of 253 and 342 in their second innings.

Chandimal, coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Asanka Gurusinha were suspended for their role in ball-tampering and the 2 hour protest during this Test match.

Sri Lanka 253 (Chandimal 119*, Mendis 45, Gabriel 5-59, Roach 4-49) and 342 (Mendis 87, Dickwella 62, Gabriel 8-62) drew with West Indies 300 (Smith 61, Kumara 4-86) and 147 for 5 (Brathwaite 59*, Hope 39, Rajitha 2-23, Lakmal 2-48).
