Kohli, Rahane rescue India after Woakes strikes: 3rd Test, Day 1 (Trent Bridge)

Skipper Virat Kohli made a defiant 97 and Ajinkya Rahane posted a fighting 81 to help India to 307-6 after Chris Woakes had them struggling at 82-3 before lunch.

England won the toss and Chris Woakes' three wickets boosted them early. Kohli and Rahane added 159 for the fourth wicket to repair the damage.

England fought back late in the day knocking over Kohli and Rahane. Debutant keeper Rishabh Pant battled hard for 22 not out. Anderson removed Hardik Pandya with the last ball of the day to leave the match delicately poised.

India 307 for 6 (Kohli 97, Rahane 81, Woakes 3-75) v England.
