Saeed Ajmal: Test debut at 32 to No 1 One Day bowler

Saeed Ajmal

Saeed Ajmal was born 14 October 1977 in Faisalabad. He is a right-arm off-spin bowler who delivers a well concealed doosra. He is considered one of the best spinners in modern world cricket.

At domestic level in Pakistan he has represented Faisalabad, with whom he won the 2005 ABN-AMRO Twenty-20 Cup; Khan Research Laboratories; and Islamabad. Ajmal made a relatively late entry into international cricket, at the age of 30, but is doing his best to make up for lost time, quickly moving up to be regarded among the best spinners in the game today.

Ajmal didn't play his first Test till almost 32, but showed immediately that he belonged, taking five wickets in his debut Test against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2009. Since November 2011, Ajmal has been ranked by the International Cricket Council as the number one bowler in ODIs.

On 28 January 2012, in his 20th Test, Ajmal became the quickest Pakistani to take 100 test wickets. Saeed Ajmal also holds the record for taking maximum wickets (71) in Twenty20 International cricket.
