Player profile:

Stuart Macgill: Underrated leg spinner had better record than Shane Warne

MacGill, Stuart C G

Stuart MacGill was born on Feb 25, 1971 in Perth.

He was an aggressive right arm leg spinner who spun the ball sharply and had a well disguised googly.

MacGill made his Test debut against South Africa in Adelaide during the 1998 season, but despite a superb record in Tests has largely lived in the shadow of Warne.

MacGill suffered a number of injuries in his career, including a knee complaint from the controversial boot camp that left several players sore in 2006 following days of trekking and challenges as preparation for the Ashes battle.

MacGill retired in 2008 after playing 44 Test matches from 1998 and taking 208 Test wickets for Australia at an average of 29.02.

He returned to cricket briefly in 2011 when he played for the Sydney Sixers in the inaugural Big Bash League.
