Classy century on Test debut

Jennings, Keaton K

Keaton Jennings was born on June 19, 1992 in Johannesburg, Transvaal. He is a left handed opening batsman who first represented and then captained the South Africa Under 19 team. He made his first class debut for Gautam in 2011. He is the son of Ray Jennings who played for South Africa, prior to re-admission in 1991.

He qualified to play domestic cricket in England as his mother was born in Sunderland. After playing for Durham in the English County Championship, Jennings was forced to make a decision and chose to make England his home country. He had a fine season in 2016 for Durham and was named County Championship Player of the Year by the Cricket Writers' Club.

In Nov 2016, Jennings was called up from the England A Lions touring party in the United Arab Emirates after opener Haseeb Hameed suffered a fractured hand in India. He made his international debut when he was selected in the 4th Test at Mumbai. Jennings scored a composed century on debut, batting as Alastair Cook's 11th Test opening partner. He became only the 18th English player to make a century on Test debut.
