Allom, Maurice J C

Maurice Allom was born on 23/03/1906 and died aged 89 on 08/04/1995.

He was a tall right arm fast medium bowler who was the first player to pick a hat trick on Test match debut when he played in the first ever England-New Zealand Test match in 1930. This record was subsequently matched by Peter Petherick and Damien Fleming. He was the first bowler to take 4 wickets in 5 balls.

His Test career was short, lasting just 5 Test matches during which he took 14 wickets at 18.92.

He played in 179 first class matches, turning out for Cambridge University and Surrey. He took 630 wickets at 22.79.

Allom was the President of the MCC from 1969-70.
