Jones stars as USA humble Pakistan in Super Over: 2024 World Cup T20 (Dallas)

In a massive boil over, debutants the United States humbled 2022 finalists Pakistan in a result that set the T20 World Cup alight.

Aaron Jones was the star as 18th ranked USA successfully defended a 19-run target during a tense Super Over with the 2022 finalists.

Mohammad Amir, previously convicted of match fixing, conceded 18 runs including seven wides when he delivered the Super Over.

Earlier, Pakistan were put into bat and laboured their way to 159-7. Babar Azam top scored with 44 in 43 balls, while Shadab Khan added 40 in 25.

In reply, USA began well and got to 104-1 after 13 overs. Then Andries Gous (35 off 26) and Monank Patel (50 off 38) were dismissed in successive overs. Needing 12 runs from the final three deliveries, Jones (36 not out from 26 balls) and Kumar (14 not out from 14 balls) struck six, one and four off Pakistan paceman Haris Rauf to tie the match and force the one-over decider.

USA 159 for 3 (Monank 50, Jones 36*, Gous 35) beat Pakistan 159 for 7 (Babar 44, Shadab 40, Kenjige 3-30, Netravalkar 2-18) via Super Over.
