Mathews, Aponso star despite Faulkner hat trick: 2nd ODI (RPS)

Skipper Angelo Mathews (57 and 2-17) and newcomer Amila Aponso (4-18) were the stars as Sri Lanka secured a crushing 82-run win over Australia to level the series level at 1-1, with three more matches to be played.

Chasing 289, Australia slumped to 41-3 but was rescued by Matt Wade and George Bailey as they shared 61 for the fourth wicket.

Earlier, James Faulkner recorded his first ODI hat-trick but Sri Lanka, who chose to bat first, still managed to post 288 in 48.5 overs.

Sri Lanka 288 (Mendis 69, Mathews 57, K Perera 54, Zampa 3-42, Faulkner 3-45, Starc 3-53) beat Australia 206 (Wade 76, Aponso 4-18, T Perera 3-33) by 82 runs.
