Smith and Marsh rescue Australia: 1st Test, Day 2 (Gabba)

Skipper Steve Smith and Shaun Marsh defied the England attack to leave the Test evenly poised.

After collapsing to 76/4, Smith made an unbeaten 64 and Marsh struck 44 not out to ensure Australia closed at 165-4, 137 behind.

Earlier,  Dawid Malan (56) and Moeen Ali (38) had put on 83 for the 5th wicket. England lost their last six wickets for 56 runs to slip to 302 all out. 

Australia 165 for 4 (Smith 64*, Marsh 44*) trail England 302 (Vince 83, Malan 56, Stoneman 53) by 137 runs.
