Sanath, Kalu maul South Africans in Emirates Trophy (1998)

Demonstrating that the World Cup win was no fluke manufactured on flat subcontinental pitches, Sri Lanka thrashed South Africa by 57 runs in the opening match of the first ever three-nations ODI tournament in England.

This was also the first match to feature coloured clothing in an ODI in England.

Sanath Jayasuiya 36 and Romesh Kaluwitharna 33 put on 85 in quick time as the Lankans scored 258.

In response the South Africans never got going against a strong Lankan fielding display backed by accurate bowling.
