A sublime unbeaten century from Mahela Jayawardene and a thrilling 92 from makeshift opener Tillakaratne Dilshan gave Sri Lanka the initiative after two early wickets from Chris Martin had given New Zealand the perfect start in overcast conditions. Samaraweera 82 not out and Jayawardena 108 not out put on 159 runs to take the home team to a dominant 293-3 after a late start due to rain. 1st Test Day 1 Galle. Aug 2009.
