Ponting steadies Australia as Vettori falls short: 1st Test, Day 2 (Gabba)

Ricky Ponting (67 not out) and Michael Clarke (28 not out)battled hard as Australia finished on 154-3, 141 runs short of New Zealand's first-innings total of 295 all out.

Earlier, Nathan Lyon (4-66) was the star as the hosts took five wickets in the morning session to have the Kiwis all out for 295.Daniel Vettori fell four short of a richly-deserved century and and Dean Brownlie (77 not out) had a record 158-run sixth-wicket partnership.
