Sri Lanka crash to 294 all out after bright start: 3rd Test, Day 1 (SCG)

Australia bowled Sri Lanka out for 294 after Michael Clarke won the toss and elected to bowl on an emotion-charged day that remembered Tony Greig and celebrated Mike Hussey's last test match.

Skipper Mahela Jayawardene (72) was dropped on 4 but scored his first fifty in over 3 years overseas to steady the tourists innings. It was a fighting 91 from Lahiru Thirimanne that turned the tide back in Sri Lanka's favour until the late collapse losing their last 5 wickets for just 44 after tea. Jackson Bird was the pick of the bowlers, rewarded with four wickets, while retiree Mike Hussey snared three catches.

Sri Lanka 294 (Thirimanne 91, Jayawardene 72, Bird 4-41, Starc 3-71).
