Shafiq, Misbah defy SA after AB century: 1st Test, Day 3 (Jborg)

Misbah-ul-Haq (44 not out) and Asad Shafiq (53 not out) fought back with a gutsy fifth wicket partnership of 101 to take Pakistan to 183 for four after being set to make an improbable 480 to win.

Earlier, South Africa made a fast start when they resumed scoring 68 runs in just nine overs before declaring on 275-3 with AB de Villiers stroking a sparkling unbeaten century off 117 balls.

Pakistan 183 for 4 (Misbah 44*, Shafiq 53*) and 49 need 297 more runs to beat South Africa 253 and 275 for 3 dec (de Villiers 103*, Amla 74*, Smith 52).
