IPL controversy: BJP leader objects to use of water

Ahead of its sixth season, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is already surrounded by controversies. Maharashtra Opposition leader Vinod Tawde has objected to the use of water in stadiums in the drought-hit state. Tawde argues that pitch maintenance in these stadiums will consume 60,000 litres of water every day. "As per my knowledge, 60,000 litres of water would be used to maintain a cricket ground every day. Thus, during the entire season of IPL matches spread over 36 days (from April 9 to May 15 in Maharashtra), 21.6 lakh litre water will be used for a single ground," Tawde said in a letter to IPL chief Rajeev Shukla.Apr 2013
