Kapil bowls India to a famous win (1980/81)

India squared the series 1-1 in the 3rd Test at the MCG as Kapil (5-28) bowled India to a famous win.

Gundappa Viswanath scored 114 runs out of India’s total of 237.

In reply, Australia posted 419 thanks to Allan Border’s hundred.

Gavaskar and Chauhan batted with great determination and put up 165 on the board. Gavaskar then blew up after he inside-edged Dennis Lillee on to his pad and was given out lbw. Gavaskar dragged a reluctant Chauhan off the field in protest and only the timely intervention of the Indian team manager ensured the Test continued.

Chasing 143, Kapil Dev bowled Australia out for 83 – a result which helped India draw the series 1-1.
