The visitors slumped to 19-2 before a fightback from Joe Root (59 not out) steadied the ship as they reached stumps at 130-3.

England 242 and 130 for 3 (Root 59*, Bairstow 6*) need a further 361 to beat Pakistan 378 and 354 for 6 dec (Younis 118, Misbah 87, Shafiq 79).
