Cook ton in vain as Aussies bounce back with win: 3rd Test, Day 4 (Adelaide)

The new look Australia team secured a consolation win against South Africa by seven wickets after a disciplined bowling effort led by Mitch Starc.

Australia dismissed the Proteas for 250, with under pressure opener Stephen Cook the last man out for a fighting 104. Chasing 127, Steve Smith (40) and Matt Renshaw (34 not out) motored along to gain the win with a day to spare.

South Africa won the series 2-1.

Australia 383 and 3 for 127 (Warner 47) beat South Africa 9 for 259 dec and 250 (Cook 104, Starc 4-80, Lyon 3-60) by 7 wickets.
