Historic Moeen hat trick delivers England win: 3rd Test, Day 5 (Oval)

All rounder Moeen Ali took a hat-trick to complete a 239-run victory over South Africa to enable England to go 2-1 up in the 4 Test series.

Opener Dean Elgar made a defiant 136 but the spotlight was on off spinner Moeen who finished with 4-45. South Africa, chasing an unlikely 492, were bowled out for 252 shortly after lunch.

Moeen's hat trick was the first by an English spinner since 1938 and a first in a England-South Africa series. It was also the first ever hat trick after 100 years of Test cricket at the Oval.

England 353 (Stokes 112, Cook 88) and 313 for 8 dec (Bairstow 63, Westley 59, Root 50) beat South Africa 175 (Bavuma 52, Roland-Jones 5-57) and 252 (Elgar 136, Moeen 4-45) by 239 runs.
