Honours were shared as Australia fought through a fluctuating first day of the day-night Test to reach 4-209.

Tempers flared between rain delays as the English pace duo of Anderson and Broad got stuck into Steve Smith.

Handscomb (36 not out) and Marsh (20 not out) battles hard with a stand of 48 to recover some lost ground after Joe Root inserted Australia after winning the toss.
