Batsmen hit, play halted on dangerous pitch: 3rd Test, Day 3 (Jburg)

Dean Elgar was hit on the head and the Umpires chose to end play prematurely on day three of the third Test between South Africa and India because of concerns over the cracks on an uneven Wanderers pitch.

Batsmen from both sides were hit by sharply rising deliveries, with India opener Murali Vijay struck five times in the first session alone. Rahane and Kohli bravely battled on as India posted 247.

Later the umpires confirmed that play will resume on Day 4 as South Africa chase a daunting target 241 to win. They have already secured the series 2-0.

South Africa 194 and 17 for 1 need another 224 runs to beat India 187 and 247 (Rahane 48, Kohli 41, Bhuvneshwar 33, Morkel 3-47).
