Watling, de Grandhomme lift NZ after Broad burst: 2nd Test, Day 2 (Christchurch)

BJ Watling and Colin de Grandhomme hauled New Zealand back into the second Test to trail England by 115 runs with four wickets remaining.

Stuart Broad took 4-38 to rock NZ. Watling (77 not out) and de Grandhomme (72) had a 142-run stand for the sixth wicket which helped New Zealand recover from 36/5 to end the day at 192/6.

Earlier, England resumed the day on 290/8, but could add only 17 runs to their overnight score before being bowled out. Johnny Bairstow scored the three runs required to bring up his fifth Test century.

New Zealand 192 for 6 (Watling 77*, Southee 13*, de Grandhomme 72, Broad 4-38) trail England 307 (Bairstow 101, Wood 52, Southee 6-62, Boult 4-87) by 115 runs .
