Mendis battles but Windies on top: 1st Test, Day 4 (Trinidad)

Kusal Mendis (94 not out) led a strong Sri Lankan fightback but West Indies still hold the edge heading into an exciting last day.

Chasing a record target of 453, the visitors reached 176 for three by the close with Mendis nearing his century.

Earlier, Jason Holder aided Windies his 40-ball 39 which included four fours and a six as the declaration came with the home team's score on 223 for 7.

Sri Lanka 185 and 176 for 3 (K Mendis 94*, Mathews 31) need another 277 runs to beat West Indies 414 for 8 dec and 223 for 7 dec (Powell 88, Kumara 3-40).
