Stokes stars as England edge out India in thriller: 1st Test, Day 4 (Edgbaston)

All-rounder Ben Stokes (4-40) was the star with the ball as England beat India narrowly by 31 runs to go 1-0 up in the 5 Test series.

Stokes claimed the prize wicket of Virat Kohli for 51, then added Mohammed Shami in the same over to leave India on the ropes.

The dangerous Hardik Pandya (31) remained a threat giving India hope but Stokes took the decisive wicket to complete the win.

England 287 (Root 80, Bairstow 70, Ashwin 4-62, Shami 3-64) and 180 (Curran 63, Ishant 5-51, Ashwin 3-59) beat India 274 (Kohli 149, Curran 4-74) and 162 (Kohli 51, Stokes 4-40) by 31 runs.
