Anderson breaks record as England beat India 4-1: 5th Test, Day 5 (Oval)

James Anderson bowled tailender Mohammed Shami to seal a 118-run victory over India in the fifth Test and secure a 4-1 series win for England.

With this wicket, Anderson went past Glenn Mcgrath (563 Test wickets) to become the most successful fast bowler of all time. Spinner Muttiah Muralitharan holds the all time record with 800 wickets.

Earlier, India put up stern resistance as K L Rahul and Rishabh Pant hit centuries. Rahul and Pant put on a 204-run stand to give India hope of a historic win. However, Adil Rashid dismissed both players in successive overs and Anderson wrapped up the tail.

England 332 (Buttler 89, Cook 71, Moeen 50, Jadeja 4-79) and 423 for 8 dec (Cook 147, Root 125, Vihari 3-37) beat India 292 (Jadeja 86*, Vihari 56, Moeen 2-50) and 345 (Rahul 149, Pant 114, Anderson 3-45) by 118 runs.
