Mathews stars in thrilling win over Windies: 3rd ODI (Pallekele)

Veteran allrounder Angelo Mathews delivered with the ball to help Sri Lanka clinch a tense six-run win over West Indies and sweep the series 3-0.

Fabian Allen smashed 37 off 15 balls to close in on the target. But Mathews stepped up to claim 4/59 to bowl the hosts to a victory after injuries to Nuwan Pradeep and Dhananjaya de Silva left their bowling depleted.

Earlier, paceman Alzarri Joseph claimed four wickets as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 307 in 50 overs. Avishka Fernando and Karunaratne gave the hosts a brisk start with a 60-run opening stand. Kusal Perera, who made 44, and Mendis put on 89-run stand to take the attack to the opposition.

Sri Lanka 307 (Mendis 55, Dhananjaya 51, Joseph 4-65) beat West Indies 301 for 9 (Hope 72, Ambris 60, Pooran 51, Allen 37, Mathews 4-59) by six runs.
