Teenage Tendulkar strokes first hundred in England (Old Trafford)

Already 1-0 down in the series, India had been set 408 to win by Graham Gooch in the 2nd Test. Soon after lunch, they had collapsed to 109 for four when Sachin Tendulkar came to the crease.

He hit 119 not out with 17 fours in a supreme effort that saved India. 19 year old Tendulkar  became the youngest Test centurion in England.

India escaped with a draw finishing at 343-6. In the first innings, Tendulkar posted 68 in a score of 432.
