Ashwin, Vihari defy Aussies in great escape: 3rd Test, Day 5 (SCG)

Ravi Ashwin and an injured Hanuman Vihari hung on grimly for over 3 hours to defy Australia and save the 3rd Test.

Rishah Pant smashed 97 to keep India in the game but Tim Paine's side was in the box seat at tea on day five with the tourists 280/5, chasing a target of 407.

Ashwin and Vihari combined to frustrate the locals, the pair digging in to navigate a tense final session to guide their team to 334/5 and a famous draw.

Australia 338 and 312 for 6 dec drew with India 244 and 334 for 5 (Pant 97, Pujara 77, Sharma 52, Ashwin 39*, Vihari 23*, Hazlewood 2-39).
