Root cracks hundred in his 100th match, routs India: 1st Test (Chennai)

Skipper Joe Root marked his 100th Test with a commanding century as England dominated India.

The England captain hit his 3rd successive century - a brilliant 218 - and led his side to a massive 578 in the first innings.

Pant rescued India with a brilliant 91 as they folded for 337.

Anderson and Leach bowled out India for 192 to secure the win.

England 578 (Root 218, Sibley 87, Stokes 82) and 178 (Ashwin 6-61) beat India 337 (Pant 91, Sundar 85*, Pujara 73, Bess 4-76) and 192 (Kohli 72, Leach 4-76) by 227 runs.
