Deep Dasgupta was a right handed batsman and wicket keeper. He made his first class debut in the 1998-99 domestic season when he scored a century on his Ranji debut.
In 2001, his keeping led to 13 dismissals in just three first-class games. Samir Dighbe was struggling with the gloves and Dasgupta was chosen for the South African tour. He made his debut in the 1st Test at Bloemfontein. He scored 34 and 4 and took 2 catches.
Dasgupta struck his maiden Test century and highest score (100) in Mohali during the 1st Test against England in 2001.
Overall, Dasgupta played in 8 Tests and 5 ODIs from 2001 to 2002.
