Moeen Ali was born on 18 June 1987 in Birmingham . He is a left handed opening batsman who made his first class debut for Cambridge University in 2005.
He made his international debut when he was selected in the 1st ODI against West Indies in Antigua in 2014.
Moeen made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2014. He made his maiden Test century in his 2nd test against Sri Lanka at Leeds in 2014 whilst batting in the middle order.
In September 2024, Moeen announced his retirement from international cricket, with the 37-year-old declaring: “I’ve done my part.” The allrounder played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is for England.
Moeen scored five Test and three ODI centuries. He also took 204 Test wickets, along with 111 in ODIs and 51 in T20 cricket for England.
He won the 50-over World Cup on home soil in 2019 and the T20 World Cup in 2022. He first retired from Test cricket in 2021 but came out of retirement two years later for the home Ashes series against Australia, which England ultimately drew.
Moeen was the long term vice captain of England's white ball squads; he also captained them in an ODI and 12 T20s.
