Billings ton in vain as Aussies clinch opener: 1st ODI (Manchester)

Sam Billings’ maiden ODI century was not enough as Australia secured a 19-run victory in the 150th one-day international between the rivals.

Australia recovered from 123-5 to post 294-9 thanks to a superb 126-run partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell.

In reply, England were quickly reduced to 57-4 but Billings struck 118, and 88 from Jonny Bairstow, gave England hope before they fell short.

Australia 294 for 9 (Maxwell 77, Marsh 73, Wood 3-54) beat England 275 for 9 (Billings 118, Bairstow 84, Hazlewood 3-26) by 19 runs.
