Cook extends England dominance over South Africa: 1st Test, Day 3 (Lords)

Former skipper Alastair Cook scored his 54th half-century as England extended their dominance over over South Africa with a lead of 216.

Cook's 59 not out was supported by 33 from Keaton Jennings and an unbeaten 22 from Gary Ballance to steer the hosts to a strong 119-1 at stumps.

Earlier, Quinton de Kock (51) dominated a 66-run stand with Philander (52) for the eighth South African wicket as the visitors posted 361. Moeen Ali took 4-59.

England 458 and 119 for 1 (Cook 59*, Ballance 22*) lead South Africa 361 (Bavuma 59, Elgar 54, Philander 52, de Kock 51, Moeen 4-59) by 216 runs.
