England enter semis after Root and Ball shine: 2017 CT ENG v NZL (Cardiff)

England delivered an impressive performance to beat New Zealand by 87 runs and storm into the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy.

In form Joe Root smashed 64 off 65 balls to achor England's batting. Root was supported by Alex Hales (56 off 62 balls) and Jos Buttler (61 not out off 48 balls) as England posted 310.

In reply, Kane Williamson hit 87 but Jake Ball (2-32) bowled a miserly spell and Plunkett took 4-59 to have them all out for 223.

England 310 (Root 64, Buttler 61*, Hales 56) beat New Zealand 223 (Williamson 87, Ball 2-32, Plunkett 4-59) by 87 runs.
