Mike Whitney: Left arm surprise packet

Mike Whitney was a left arm paceman who played for Australia between 1981 and 1993.

Whitney's debut came in unusual circumstances during Australia's Ashes tour in 1981. Australia were hit by injuries to its pace attack ahead of the 5th Test at Old Trafford. Whitney was in England playing Northern League Cricket and got a surprise call up which he describes in this clip.

In a memorable batting peformance, Whitney saved the 1987 Test match against a rampaging Hadlee. Coming in as last man, he survived 18 deliveries to help secure a draw for Australia against New Zealand.
