On 25 June 1932, India started its journey in international Cricket as a Test-playing nation, making its debut against England at Lord's. The series is fought over two trophies: 

Anthony de Mello Trophy:
This trophy was awarded for the Test series played between India and England when the series is held in India.
 
Pataudi Trophy:
This trophy was awarded when the Test series between India and England is played in England.
 
In June 2025, the ECB and BCCI decided to award the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to the winning team.
 
 
2006 IND v ENG Tests

Andrew Flintoff led England on a 3 Test series of India from 1 – 22 March 2006. India were led by Rahul Dravid. The series was drawn 1–1.

  • Alastair Cook: 164 runs on debut Test
  • Monty Panesar: Took key wickets (notably Tendulkar) in his debut series
  • Paul Collingwood & Owais Shah: Key contributions with the bat

India

  • Rahul Dravid: 309 runs – steady throughout the series
  • Anil Kumble: 16 wickets – match-winner in Mohali
  • Irfan Pathan: All-round contributions with bat and ball
  • Mohammad Kaif & Wasim Jaffer: Scored useful runs
