Aussies crumble for 85 as Philander takes 5-21: 2nd Test, Day 1 (Hobart)

Vernon Philander was the star as Australia were bowled out for only 85 on the first day.

Philander took 5-21, Kyle Abbott 3-41 and only Steve Smith (48 not out) showed some fight as Australia slumped to their lowest home total against the Proteas.

In reply, South Africa stretched their dominance having reached 171-5 by the close for a lead of 86.

South Africa 5 for 171 (Amla 47, Starc 3-49) lead Australia 85 (Smith 48*, Philander 5-21, Abbott 3-41) by 86 runs.
