For the first time in this series, the Sri Lankan top-order batted with responsibility. Sri Lanka was 223-2 at stumps, only 14 runs behind, when rain halted play. Kumar Sangakkara (69 not out) and Mahela Jayawardene (38 n.o.) were at the crease after a stand of 95.Sri Lankan captain T.M.
