Malinga burst overcomes Afridi onslaught: Asia Cup 1st ODI (Dambulla)

A magnificent century (109 in just 76 balls) from skipper Shahid Afridi could not prevent Sri Lanka from a 16 run win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup opener.

Sri Lanka recovered from 168-7 to 242 for 9 thanks to Angelo Mathews 55 not out.

Mahela Jayawardene chipped in with 54 at the top as Shoaib Akhtar took 3-41 on his comeback after 13 months on the sidelines.

Pakistan were a shaky 3-24 but ended being all out for 226 in 47 overs after Afridi's heroics. Lasith Malinga was the chief destroyer taking 5-34.
