Retirement: Sanath blames media for selfish issue

Sanath Jayasuriya couldn't end his glorious international career with the type of swashbucking display that characterised his 22 years in the game. The cricketer-turned-politician was put on the spot by Michael Atherton when asked to explain his motives for returning for only 2 games and not the whole series. He scored only 2 runs before he was caught by Eoin Morgan as he scythed a cut off the bowling of Tim Bresnan. Playing in his 445th ODI, Jayasuriya was given a standing ovation as he departed. 1st ODI, Oval, June 2011
