Root keeps England alive despite Bumrah burst: 1st Test, Day 4 (Nottingham)

Skipper Joe Root kept England's hopes of victory over India alive with a superb 21st Test hundred on an absorbing day.

Root made 109 before he fell to paceman Jasprit Bumrah (5-64), who then made light work of the lower order.

India ended on 52-1 in chase of 209 to win after Broad removed Rahul late in the day.

India 278 and 52 for 1 (Rahul 26, Rohit 12*) need another 157 runs to beat England 183 and 303 (Root 109, Curran 32, Bumrah 5-64, Thakur 2-37).
