Spinner Tabriz Shamsi was the star as Nepal blew their chances of qualifying for the Super Eight by losing to South Africa by a single run in a last-over nail-biter.
Chasing just 116, Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh laid the platform for Nepal in their run-chase with a partnership of 35. Nepal were in control and only needed 30 from 38 balls when Shamsi struck.
Shamsi spun a web around the Nepal batters, finishing with figures of 4/19 in his four overs including a crucial spell in the 18th over when Nepal looked odds on for an upset win.
Earlier, Reeza Hendricks scored 43 runs off 49 balls with 5 fours and a six before Dipendra Singh Airee (3-21) and Bhurtel (4-19) dented the Proteas progress.
South Africa 115 for 7 (Hendricks 43, Stubbs 27*, Bhurtel 4-19, Airee 3-21) beat Nepal 114 for 7 (Aasif 42, Sah 27, Shamsi 4-19) by one run.
