Magnificent Root century rescues England, pips Windies : 2nd ODI (Cardiff)

Veteran Joe Root struck a sublime 166 not out (139 balls) as England secured a three-wicket victory over the West Indies and clinched the series 2-0 at Sophia Gardens.

England were struggling at 92-4 when Root stepped up with a magnificent century that took him past Eoin Morgan as England's leading run scorer in ODIs.

Earlier, Keacy Carty (103) hit his fourth ODI ton as the visitors posted 308 all out. Leg spinner Adil Rashid (4-63) claimed his 412th wicket, the most by an England spinner. Shai Hope (78) and Brandon King (59) also contributed with the bat.

England 312 for 7 (Root 166*, Jacks 49, Brook 47, Joseph 4-31) beat West Indies 308 (Carty 103, Hope 78, King 59, Rashid 4-63) by three wickets. June 2025.
