India fightback after Stokes smashes century: 4th Test, Day 4 (Manchester)

Ben Stokes made history as the first England captain to score a century and take a five-wicket haul in the same Test as England dominated India yet again on Day 4 at Old Trafford.

Resuming at 544/7, England extended their innings to a mammoth 669 all out, with Stokes scoring a superb 141 and Brydon Carse adding a quick 47. Their 9th-wicket partnership piled further pressure on India, setting up a commanding 311-run lead.

India started badly in their second innings losing Jaiswal and Sudharsan to be 0-2. Gill survived Woakes’s hat-trick ball and overcame being dropped on 46 by Liam Dawson to reach 78 not out. KL Rahul was unbeaten on 87 to give India hope of avoiding defeat and setting up a decider.

India 358 and 174 for 2 (Rahul 87*, Gill 77*, Woakes 2-48) trail England 699 (Root 150, Stokes 141, Jadeja 4-143) by 137 runs.
