Leg spinner Rishad Hossain took a 6 wicket haul as Bangladesh defeated West Indies by 74 runs in the first ODI at Mirpur to take a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first, Bangladesh recovered from a poor start to post 207 in 49.4 overs, thanks to Towhid Hridoy’s steady 51 and Mahidul Islam Ankon’s composed 46.
Defending a modest total, Rishad produced a match-winning spell, taking a career-best 6 for 35 as the West Indies were bowled out for 133. Brandon King top-scored with 44 for the visitors, but his dismissal sparked a collapse that saw the last seven wickets fall for just 51 runs.
Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured a comfortable victory on a bowler-friendly surface, setting them up strongly for the rest of the series.
Bangladesh 207 (Hridoy 51, Mahidul 46, Seales 3-48) beat West Indies 133 (King 44, Athanaze 27, Rishad 6-35) by 74 runs.
