Skipper Shai Hope returned to form as West Indies opened their T20 series against Bangladesh with a composed 16-run win in Chattogram.
After electing to bat, the visitors built steadily through Alick Athanaze (34) and Brandon King (33) before Hope’s fluent 46 off 28 balls and Rovman Powell’s powerful 44 lifted them to a solid 165 for 3.
Bangladesh’s chase never fully gathered momentum, losing wickets regularly on a sluggish surface that offered turn and grip. Despite a spirited 33 from Tanzim Hasan Sakib, the hosts were dismissed for 149 in the final over. Spinner Akeal Hosein played a crucial role with his tight four-over spell, taking key middle-order wickets and stifling Bangladesh’s scoring rate, while Jayden Seales provided incisive pace up front.
The disciplined all-round bowling effort ensured Hope’s side took a 1–0 lead in the series.
West Indies 165 for 3 (Hope 46*, Powell 44*, Taskin 2-36) beat Bangladesh 149 (Tanzim 33, Holder 3-31, Seales 3-32) by 16 runs.
