Jadeja achieves rare double, skittles South Africa: 1st Test, Day 2 (Kolkata)

Ravindra Jadeja achieved a historical all round record as India made further inroads on Day 2 at Eden Gardens in the 1st Test against South Africa, extending their advantage despite a few scares.

After skittling South Africa for 159 in the first innings, India’s batters responded, but lost four quick wickets to be 138/4 at lunch. Skipper Shubman Gill, visibly struggling, retired hurt with a neck issue, adding a note of concern. In the second session, India fought back through some gutsy batting from the likes of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, but still found themselves trailing as the pitch offered variable bounce and the bowlers kept the pressure on.

By stumps, South Africa had started poorly in their second innings, losing key wickets to spin, and were 93/7, handing momentum to India going into Day 3.

Jadeja crossed 4,000 Test runs and already has over 300 Test wickets, achieving the rare double of 4,000+ runs and 300+ wickets. By doing this, he joined an elite list alongside cricket legends Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, and Daniel Vettori.

South Africa 159 and 93 for 7 (Bavuma 29*, Jadeja 4-29) lead India 189 (Rahul 39, Harmer 4-30, Jansen 3-35) by 63 runs.
